The $20 I Took

Okay, so this is stupid, but I gotta get it off my chest. When I was maybe 10 or 11, my mom left a twenty dollar bill on the kitchen counter. She was probably going grocery shopping or something. I wanted a new video game REALLY bad. I knew we didn't have much money, and asking her was pointless. So... I took it. I went to the store, bought the game, and hid it. She never said anything, never noticed it was gone. I felt guilty then, but I was also so happy about the game. I played it for weeks. Now, I'm 35, and I still think about that twenty dollars. It feels so small, but it also feels like a huge, shitty thing I did. I should have just asked. I should have just been honest. I wish I could go back and put the money back. I still feel bad.
